Welcome to the Frankfort Elementary School
May 18 - Early Release Day - Noon Dismissal
From the Principal's Desk
Congratulations to fifth graders, Maxwell Webster and Breanna Brown both of whom were chosen to participate in the District V music festival in Milo last week! Not only were they chosen to represent our school, they also received solo parts in the evening concert performance. Way to go, Max and Breanna!!
On Wednesday, May 2 our school participated in A.C.E.S., All Children Exercising Simultaneously. At 10:00 am in many schools across the country, students and staff dropped what they were doing and joined together for a movement break. Here at FES, all students and staff met in the gym for 20 minutes of dancing fun. What a great time we had! A.C.E.S. was created by physical education teacher Len Saunders in 1989 as a fun way to motivate students to exercise. This program is supported by Youth Fitness Coalition, Inc. and takes place in many schools across the nation on the first Wednesday in May each year. It has been labeled, “the world's largest exercise class.” Did you know May is also National Physical Fitness and Sports Month? This week
is also National Physical Education Week. Thank you to Mrs. Robichaud for her fun and exciting phys ed classes she provides to our FES students every week!
As mentioned above in our important dates section of the newsletter, our FES authors will be showcasing the books they created as part of the Lynn Plourde/Sally Stanton Author/Illustrator In-Residence Program. Our After School Program will be sponsoring a Community Barbeque just before the Author's Tea from 5:00-6:00 pm. Please watch for more information to come home soon about this community event.
On a final note for this week, many of you may not know that fifth graders have been observing and caring for salmon eggs. Those eggs have now hatched! Our fifth grade class will be releasing them in Marsh Stream soon. They will also be taking a field trip to the Craig Brook Fish Hatchery in Orland tomorrow to learn about salmon and the efforts of Craig Brook Hatchery to raise and stock Atlantic Salmon in Maine waters.
